The short answer: the best time to surf in Morocco
October to April. That is the stretch when the Atlantic keeps feeding clean, consistent swell into the bay, and the biggest, best days tend to land between December and February. Nobody has to wait for winter though. Beginners surf here all year on the soft beach breaks, and the points really only need the autumn and winter swell to switch on. So there is a good time for everyone. It just depends what you are after.
The best time to surf in Morocco, month by month
Autumn (October and November)
Our favourite time of year, if we are being picky about it. The first proper swells start rolling in, the water is still holding summer warmth, and the crowds have thinned right out. You get clean, rideable waves across every level and some of the most balanced conditions of the whole year. Good surf, warm weather, space to breathe.
Winter (December to February)
This is when it gets serious. The Atlantic is at full power and the points around Taghazout come alive, long walling right-handers that surfers fly a long way for. Water is at its coldest now, though a 3/2 handles it fine, and the sun still turns up between swells. If you came for size, this is your window.
Spring (March and April)
The underrated one. Those heavy winter swells ease back into cleaner, friendlier waves, the air warms up again, and there is something in the water for everyone. Intermediates get the quality without the winter grunt, and beginners get a bit more push than summer offers. Plenty of people who come in spring end up booking it again.
Summer (May to September)
The easy season. The swell drops off and the points go quiet, but the beach breaks around Tamraght stay fun and forgiving. If it is your first ever week on a board, there is no gentler place to start: small waves, the warmest water of the year, long slow days in the sun. Nothing about it is intimidating.

Beginners: any time of year, really. The sheltered beach breaks work all year round, and summer serves up the smallest, friendliest waves for those first sessions.
Intermediates: October to April, when the surf is consistent and good without needing the biggest swells around.
Advanced: December to early March, when the points fire and the Atlantic throws its heaviest waves.
Water temperature and what to bring
The water in the bay sits around 18 to 22C for most of the year and only dips a little in the depth of winter. A 3/2 wetsuit covers you for almost the whole season. Bring more sun cream than you think you need, because even when the water cools the sun does not, and that combination of warm air and cooler water is a big part of why surfing here feels so good.
